Rockwell Collins Air Transport Cabin department is seeking a proactive, engaged leader to join the leadership team as a Senior Engineering Manager for Software.

This position is located in Irvine, CA. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

The ideal Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers in the development of new and exciting cabin and connectivity solutions. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership and management of software development activities from detailed requirements development through test and certification.

  • Acquires and develops Software Engineers, building a strong team of motivated and passionate talent to develop our world class.

  • Air Transport Cabin networking and connectivity solutions.

  • May oversee development work being performed by our trusted third party partners or subcontract labor.

  • Responsible for program performance for cognizant Software developments and tactical execution of day to day operations.

  • Leverages advanced principles, theories, and concepts of complex technical subjects to provide direction for employees.

  • Approves work scope for assigned portion of overall program.

  • Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements.

  • Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success.

  • May serve as primary engineering focal point to our valued customers.

  • Assigns technical resources to work assignments.

  • Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements.

  • Actively addresses employee performance and development issues.

  • Responsible for the development and technical coaching of staff.

  • Responsible for onboarding and assimilation of new hires.

  • Identifying the necessary staff, facilities and equipment needed for successful execution of projects.

  • Expected to spend at least 50% of their time in a direct hands-on technical role.

  • Must bring excitement and passion to this role and expect the same of the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Experience with Linux based solutions, networking, distributed computing, client server applications, network security, and digital rights management.

  • Experience with compliance with DO-178B, Agile development, Lean, and Six Sigma is strongly desired.

  • Strong technical, leadership and organizational skills as well as project management experience.

  • Experience with Object Oriented Development methods and technologies for software applications including C/C++, and Java experience on embedded Linux and Android Platforms.

  • Experience with Project planning and performance of project cost, schedule, and scope management.

  • Experience in planning complex, multi-disciplined software projects that span over an entire system.

  • Experience integrating internal software development with offshore software teams.

  • Experience managing software projects that span across multi-geographical sites.

  • Experience with leading multi-geographic and ethnically diverse development teams.

  • Experience coaching or mentoring in a formal or informal setting.

  • Experience in supporting pursuit activities, including bids and proposals.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Executive Managers, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Rockwell Collins.

Preferential Requirements:

  • Experience with all phases of the Product development life cycle (proposal though requirements verification)

  • Experience with Model Based and Object Oriented development methods and technologies
