The Senior Systems Engineer will support Technology Services and Operations (TS&O) Engineering division which provides the Back Office, Networking, and Operations Center services for the Information Management Services (IMS) division of Rockwell Collins. The person will contribute to all phases of the system development life-cycle, leading integrated project teams working on service management and billing applications. Responsibilities will include the following:
Perform as Lead Project Engineer leading the design efforts for multiple systems and system of systems level projects.
Author, champion and have strong opinions on architectural standards and engineering best practices.
Use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and requirements, to design, develop, document and test hardware and/or software systems ranging from the straightforward to extremely complex.
Analyze complex business problems to be solved with automated systems.
Provide technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements.
Facilitate value discussion with business stake-holders at all organizational levels to analyze and document system specifications to meet business requirements.
Create functional, interface and infrastructure requirements for all system components.
Participate in process flow analysis and redesign projects to translate business problems into requirements.
Create high level and detailed component designs.
Contribute to the development of user documentation and training materials and provide end-user training.
Coordinate cross-functional teams and contribute to systems testing, acceptance testing and deployment.
Lead cross-functional teams in supporting operational systems – analyzing system issues and future enhancements.
Act as a mentor to more junior engineers in all areas of the systems development life cycle.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
Systems engineering experience through all phases of the SDLC life cycle and with broad knowledge of core IT technologies including networks, servers, storage, data bases and application security.
Experience with developing and managing technical requirements, including the use of requirement management tools
The ideal candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to use independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time, under general supervision.
Experience in developing and integrating complex systems and systems of systems.
Experience in applying tools and methodologies to the specification of complex systems.
Experience with migration of billing applications.
Experience migrating applications to cloud environments.
Experience with Iterative, Spiral or Agile SDLC.
Experience with Linux, Network Protocols, Data Communications and High Availability (HA).
