The Government Systems Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Hardware Engineering design team is looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer. This team ensures alignment of our products and programs with our key customer market segments while maximizing company and customer funding efficiencies through a product line approach. This position will be responsible for PNT hardware architectures and roadmaps for all PNT products.
The PNT Hardware Engineering team is focused on the development of new M-code based GPS Anti-Jam (AJ) hardware products as well as maintaining SAASM based hardware products. This development is done for the full life cycle of the product (requirements/design through factory transition and sustainment) and will also utilize the new product introduction processes. Additionally, the development will utilize a hardware product line approach to achieve optimal component and circuit card reuse across all hardware products.
Provide technical leadership for mechanical architecture and trade study development of high PNT applications
Lead mechanical design approaches and packaging techniques for the PNT organization
Contribute to engineering program pursuits and bid estimates
Contribute to hardware engineering requirements capture and analysis in area of domain expertise
Design, test, analyze, integrate, qualify and document hardware of moderate to high complexity
Work closely with other engineering disciplines (ie electrical, software and systems engineering) to ensure the Mechanical design is appropriate for the project/product design approach
Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, pre-qualification and qualification for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity
Conduct root-cause-analysis and technical investigations for software/hardware designs
Ensure proper packaging of systems to obtain optimal thermal and structural design
Provide engineering assistance to production, service, and repair personnel
Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to write technical material and present to customers and mid-level managers
Able to work and communicate with representatives from various departments including Business Development, Finance, and Operations
Experience in hardware development life cycle including requirements capture and verification, design and development, sub-level and system level integration and testing
Mechanical design experience including experience with CAD, thermal and structural tools and supervision and guidance to mechanical drafting
Be capable of hands-on troubleshooting using engineering lab equipment
Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner and produce detailed, clear and concise technical documentation
Be self-directed, able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight
Proficient in a 3D CAD solid modeling software package (SolidWorks and/or UG NX preferred)
Experience with FEA software package (ANSYS preferred)
Familiar with both thermal and structural testing and analysis
Experience with military aerospace testing standards
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline
Ability to obtain US DoD Security Clearance
