Job Summary

The Government Systems Engineering Airborne Strike Platform Systems Department (ASPS Engineering) is looking for a dynamic Pr Systems Engineer to provide leadership supporting our Unmanned Platforms and Advanced Unmanned development programs.

This role will maintain interaction with major Unmanned OEMs and subcontractors, business development, program managers, and a globally distributed engineering team. This position focuses on managing a group of systems and software and hardware domain engineers executing on Unmanned Systems and Software solutions. The position requires experienced leaders whom have demonstrated an ability to pursue new business opportunities and execute on small, moderate, and large developments while balancing scope, cost, and schedule. This role will be the primary Engineering Focal point for key external customers and internal program/engineering management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include defining program Architecture and Design baselines, managing individuals planning, bidding, and execution of new technology development programs for customer and internally funded Unmanned related programs. This includes working across Enterprise organizational boundaries across many different domain and disciplines to ensure successful project planning and development.

  • Additional responsibilities will include customer interaction, and communication with department and program management.

  • A successful candidate will excel at new business capture and execution of new technology developments.

  • The ideal candidate would also have knowledge of earned value and schedule management, software and systems development process and practices, and experience leading a team of more than 10 people spread across different organizations and locations.

  • The candidate must demonstrate sound decision making skills, strategic thinking, communication skills, networking skills, and able to accurately forecast project work and costs.

  • The selected candidate will work directly with and/or manage daily activities of engineers, perform some project engineering and program management tasks when applicable, and interface with support organizations during the development of products.

  • The candidate will work closely with Program Managers, Product Line / Program Management, Systems, Software, and support staff to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a program's lifecycle.

  • A successful candidate will need the ability to matrix across multiple domains and development tasks while supporting project objectives of meeting cost and schedule goals.

  • Candidate will lead the engineering team using strong interaction, interpersonal, mentoring and negotiating skills, and will be responsible for managing project risks/issues and elevating to upper management when appropriate.

  • In addition, the candidate will be responsible for adhering to, and supporting Rockwell Collins process methodologies while developing and managing commitments to meet project financial and schedule deliverables and quality requirements.

Basic Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline, Experience with Unmanned Systems and Software Developments

  • US Citizenship

  • Ability to obtain an active DOD security clearance

Preferred Skills Profile:

  • Experience with Critical UAS Technologies like: Autonomy Algorithms, Detect and Avoid, Loss Link, Flight Management Decision Aiding, Autonomous Flight Controls, Sensor Fusion, and Operated Assisted Decision Loops with Ground Stations

  • Experience with executing Internal Research and Development Programs, delivering new technologies to internal and external customers

  • Previous experience as a Lead Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Technical Project Manager

  • Project planning and execution on programs with more than 10 engineers

  • Demonstrated some experience with Agile software development and planning models

  • Ability to travel up to 15% over the course of a year

A successful candidate will also possess:

  • Understanding and utilization of the appropriate processes and tools during pursuit and order capture.

  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated with interpersonal interaction, individual mentoring to develop the team composition, and training.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work well with others in a professional team environment.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, while balancing priorities and schedules are important attributes.

  • Self-starter and have strong analytical skills.

  • Experience pursuing medium and high complexity program engineering change proposals.
