Job Summary

Rockwell Collins is currently seeking qualified candidates for experienced engineers in our Government Systems Flight Management Applications and Systems department, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This organization is cognizant for our military based flight management software product. Our flight manager applications provide global airspace access and mission planning capabilities for a variety military and civilian aircraft. This is done by provide real time information and solutions to the pilots, giving them unprecedented ability to execute their missions throughout the world by providing flight planning, guidance and navigation capabilities for both military- and civil-certified aircraft.

This specific role is for a Software Systems Engineer with the primary responsibility of developing system requirements, product software, test cases, and test software for a variety of rotary and fixed wing platforms.

Job Responsibilities

This individual must have an applicable STEM degree aligned with system and software engineering in the aerospace industry. Successful candidates will operate in a multidisciplinary team environment as part of an AGILE development team. Entry level engineers are expected to be able to adapt to change, accomplish tasks on schedule, collaborate with teammates to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, and be self motivated to contribute in a work environment positively.

  • Knowledge of C, C++, ADA, and Python is preferred.

  • Defense or Aerospace industry experience is preferred.

Other responsibilities and job requirements include

  • Ability to work well within a team structure

  • Strong written and oral technical communications skills

  • Knowledge or experience in avionics engineering fundamentals

  • Knowledge or experience in software development

  • Knowledge or experience in system requirements capture, design, and decomposition ability

  • Understanding of system validation and verification processes for technical product development; able to generate test descriptions and perform evaluation and testing of product systems

  • Ability to effectively interact and build trust with team members from many different backgrounds, including engineering management, engineering teams, program management, business development, and finance

  • Time management skills - ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work

  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing project priorities

  • Effective communication (written, verbal, and interpersonal)

  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international <10%)

Basic Qualifications

Must have Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance (US Citizenship required)
