The Government Systems Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Solutions Engineering organization is seeking a talented leader for the Precision Systems team within the Airborne, Weapons, and Antenna Electronics (AE) Products Engineering department. We need a leader who is ready to lead the Guidance Quality team, and the department, into the future. The ideal candidate for this role embodies the Rockwell Collins Vision Roadmap, has the courage to take prudent risks, the grit to persevere through difficult challenges, and the foresight and wisdom to lead positive change throughout the organization.
The Guidance Quality team is one half of the larger Precision Systems team. This team pushes the frontier of PNT technology by utilizing high performance sensors and datalinks with relative navigation algorithms to achieve precise and accurate navigation between two dynamic platforms. More specifically, the Guidance Quality team is responsible for the development of the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) which will ensure a safe and fully automated aircraft landing onto a moving aircraft carrier at sea. Further, the team uses this core competency and associated technologies to capture business in adjacent markets, including systems that support inertial alignment of carrier based aircraft and precision landing and capture solutions for multiple airborne, maritime, and ground systems. Additionally, this team will ensure that this new technology development is done in line with the PNT product line processes and roadmaps.
The Precision Systems team is established, stable, and very effective at executing their assigned scope and working with their customers. In addition to leading the Guidance Quality team, this leader will be expected to contribute to the Precision Solutions program leadership team, which includes the peer Precision Systems Engineering Manager, Chief Engineer, Program Managers, and managers from other engineering organizations. Further, this leader will be expected to contribute, as a team member, to the Airborne, Weapons, and AE Products Department leadership team, which includes fellow managers, TPMs, and technical leaders within the department.
An Engineering Manager has the following primary responsibilities:
Recruits, on-boards, develops, and manages individual contributing technical talent and is responsible for a small organization of systems and software engineers.
Responsible for success (technical, cost, schedule, DTC, product integrity, manufacturability etc.) of assigned/allocated tasks and activities.
Leads the team through complex problem sets utilizing critical thinking skills.
Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success.
Primary point of contact for TPM/LCVS technical or engineering resource issue resolution. Domain Project Engineer has day to day execution of development.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling responsibilities for groups of engineers.
Responsible for identification and development of group leader and key technologist back-ups.
Staying positive while leading teams through times of change, including organizational change and adoption of new procedures, policies, tools, and techniques.
To be successful in this role the Engineering Manager must fulfill the responsibilities described above while ensuring that all decisions and behaviors are guided by the Rockwell Collins Vision Roadmap.
Further, the following skills and attributes are necessary for consideration:
Demonstrated experience leading a cross-functional, multi-site engineering team focused on a medium size system development.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to address multiple audiences including peers, customers and customer leadership, Engineering leadership, Program Management, Marketing/Business Development, Operations, and technical staff at all skill levels from new hire to Technical Fellow.
Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management System and associated metrics and project management techniques
Demonstrated experience developing, gathering, analyzing, questioning, and presenting project management leading indicators (metrics) including development progress trends, product defect/quality trends, technology maturity, process compliance, and risk management metrics; demonstrated experience using this information effectively to make necessary and timely corrective actions during a development program
Additional skills that are desired, but not required include:
Experience with flight controls and aircraft landing systems
Experience targeting large, complex Matlab models to embedded systems
Candidate must currently possess or be eligible to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security clearance.
