Job Summary

The Integrated Solutions for Engineering (ISE) organization is seeking an Software Test Lead with a passion for customer satisfaction through the design and execution of testing that ensures software applications meet expectations. This team is responsible for delivering a tool ecosystem to its global engineering workforce that provides compelling gains to the consistency, efficiency, and productivity of product development efforts across the enterprise.

This position is performed with minimal supervision and requires a candidate with a strong customer focus, highly-effective communication skills, a proven ability to assess and analyze test environment performance, and the ability to prioritize and advance multiple objectives. The qualified individual will lead a small team of software testers and coordinate testing efforts with the larger software design and development team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Functions as a team lead for testing efforts. Provides guidance on complex issues to others as needed. Typically provides training or mentoring to others on a variety of testing topics.

  • Defines test plans by identifying the scope and type of work necessary for small to medium testing efforts. Establishes readiness, specifies skill needs, negotiates risk, provides estimates and plans work for testing efforts.

  • Guides testing efforts according to, and tracking against, the test strategy and test plan. Communicates progress and adjusts the test strategy and plan based upon information learned during the project.

  • Creates tests that model business scenarios to validate that the system functions as intended and to expose risks related to unintended consequences. Creates test cases to demonstrate clarity and testability of requirements.

  • Continuously improves testing approaches, processes and procedures.

  • Assesses the need for automation and creates automation fixtures and harnesses.

  • Participates in design reviews, requirements, systems analysis and test review discussions.

  • Captures test activity information during execution.

  • Discovers and reports defects.

  • Creates effective ways to display data using various modeling, reporting, statistical analysis perspectives and trending methods.

  • Collaborates daily with the design and development team via scheduled Scrum activities and impromptu discussions.

  • Coordinates activities between the design and development and testing teams to ensure that customer commitments are met.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with others at all levels. Ability to coach, mentor, negotiate and influence others. Experience working directly with developers and product management teams.

  • Strong technical aptitude and proven analytical skills required. Demonstrates the ability to understand technical requirements, concepts and procedures. Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Proven application of industry-standards, methodology, and terminology relating to application testing.

  • Strong knowledge of software packages or tools for processing, displaying, or extracting data (e.g., Microsoft Excel, SQL, Scripting languages).

  • Ability to determine how tests need to be organized in order to efficiently run/distribute them on build agents.

  • Ability to find successful resolutions for moderate to complex issues, escalating those that require management involvement.

  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to write a test strategy.

  • Experience with build and test technologies and ability to quickly assimilate new technologies. Examples include: Maven, Arquillian, Graphene, HP Quality Center, HP Unified Functional Testing, and Selenium.

  • Experience with software development technologies and ability to quickly assimilate new technologies. Examples include: EXT, Angular, React, Ember, XML, JSON, HTML, Java

  • Experience with performance and load testing.

  • Experience working in Atlassian tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, etc.).
