Job Summary

This position is for a Senior Software Engineer for the A350 IMO team in the Airborne Information Solutions department. The team is responsible for developing software delivered to the Airbus A350 aircraft that allows the crew to deliver.This Engineer will contribute to the Rockwell Collins software development of the Airbus 350 XWB IMO (Information Management On-board) system.

This engineer will determine work to architect, design, implement and integrate new features for the IMO system. Additionally, this engineer will analyze, debug, identify and resolve root cause issues in the existing IMO software. This engineer will also be asked to work closely with Systems and Hardware engineers in the identification of root cause for failures in customer returned goods.

This position will interact with teammates in Cedar Rapids, France and India. In some cases, direct interaction with Airbus engineering staff will be required.

Job Responsibilities

You will be challenged to develop solutions to complex problems requiring the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. The effects of your decisions are long-lasting and heavily influence the future adoption and growth of the A350 IMO solution.

  • Responsible for ensuring solid requirements definition, proper software design, guidance of software coding and documentation, software implementation, and directing verification efforts as needed.

  • Responsible for encouraging and maintaining adherence to Software Development Plans, Qualification Plans, Coding Standards and Verification Plans as appropriate for the particular software features or packages being developed.

  • The majority of the software is written in C and C++, with some Python scripting. Most of these applications are DO-178B DAL D/E, while a very small number are DO-178B DAL C.

  • Will provide feedback to the junior engineers in the group in order for those junior engineers to grow their technical, communication, interpersonal, avionics, and software development skills.

  • Will provide feedback to the Engineering Manager regarding those engineers' strengths and areas of development.

This position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30 am to 4:30 pm workday, or beyond a 40 hour work week.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Demonstrated commitment to learning, following, teaching and reinforcing established software development processes.

  • Development experience in C, C++, and/or Python languages.

  • Must have good working knowledge of software development and verification processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, excellent interpersonal skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong technical communication and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop integrated software applications.

Desired experience / skills:

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in the full Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Must have familiarity with Earned Value CPI/SPI.

  • Familiarity with processes for DO-178B Software Development.

  • Experience developing applications targeting a Unix-based OS.

  • Experience with development tools such as DOORS, SubVersion, ALM, JIRA, PREP

  • Understanding of the capabilities of the UNIX environment.
