Job Summary

We are currently searching for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Airborne Information Solutions team in Cedar Rapids, IA (1000). Join a dedicated cross-functional team of engineers that create state-of-the-art information management software in a strategic growing sector that keep airplanes connected! Design new avionics products that use Wi-Fi, Cellular, and Satellite connectivity! A relocation package is available for qualified candidates.

As a Sr Systems Engineer, you will work with engineering management, program management, engineering teams, customers, production, business support groups, and subcontractors to create solutions addressing both domestic and international customer needs. Your work will contribute to the development of our next generation of connectivity devices for aircraft flown around the world!

We are seeking individuals with the technical skills and personal leadership to help enhance networking and communications systems development. Candidates must have an engineering education, with experience serving as many different roles in the design and development of complex systems. In addition, candidates must have proven leadership, coaching, mentoring, and self-development. The successful candidate will communicate to multiple levels of the organization; mentor engineering team members, and provide technical requirements analysis and validation. The candidate will act as the lead engineer in wireless technologies, while leading Wi-Fi and Cellular (3G, 4G, and next gen) integration, verification, and certification.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Systems Engineer for development and certification of wireless technologies (WiFi and Cellular).

  • Serve as a Senior Systems Engineer to help capture, analyze, decompose, translate and create requirements of any complexity.

  • Serve as Systems architect and lead systems engineer to capture, analyze, decompose, translate and create requirements of any complexity.

  • Serve as product owner as well as design quality role for project planning (Sprint/PI).

  • Serve as the test lead in integration, verification and validation when needed.

  • Estimate, track, manage and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work.

  • Decisions internally and externally with the customer may have major impact on cost, schedule, and technical performance.

  • Mentor product teams with their design and use of appropriate RC processes and tools.

  • Interface with the customer on all aspects above.

  • Lead technical proposal preparations and serve as the subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.

  • Maintain awareness of technology within the Avionics Router domain and develop technology strategies to improve and develop technical roadmaps.

  • Understand and utilize internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation. Develop and review metrics and defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements. Recommend new approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in systems development processes.

This position requires the commitment of professional working hours that can extend beyond a typical 7:30 am to 4:30 pm workday, or beyond 40-hour workweeks.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Previous experience with networking and networking protocols

  • Previous experience with systems engineering processes and tools including requirements capture, analysis, verification, and validation.

  • Ability to support occasional domestic and international travel (France, Germany, US)

Successful candidates will have the above plus:

  • Linux OS and Linux based development environments

  • Experience in an avionics/aerospace domain environment

  • Previous bid and pursuit experience

  • Positive attitude that is adaptable to change, enjoys learning new technologies, and contributes to a positive work environment

  • Ability to build relationships with a global engineering team and customer

  • Be able to plan project level work to meet schedule, cost, and performance goals

  • Ability to effectively manage program risks by evaluating design aspects

  • Strong collaboration skills that facilitate effective communication with Systems, Software, and Hardware engineers, in order to make sound engineering decisions

  • Exceptional communication skills. Must be able to communicate technical issues, risks, and status in both written and oral form.

  • Previous experience certifying and working with Cellular (3G/4G/NG) and Wi-Fi technologies

  • Systems architecture definition, analysis, and design. Being able to capture, design, decompose, model and translate requirements for complex systems

  • System validation processes for technical product development

  • Development experience in an Agile environment

  • Familiarity with ALM tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Crucible and A3T.

  • Knowledge of Jenkins and Robot Framework

  • Experience with systems modelling and simulation

  • Leading Systems, Hardware, and/or Software bidding

  • Knowledge of SEER-SYS parametric estimation
