Rockwell Collins Engineering Team Leader in Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom

B/E Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rockwell Collins Inc., is a leading manufacturer of aircraft interior products and we currently have some exciting positions based at our Leighton Buzzard facility, including an Engineering Team Leader.

Supporting the Engineering Manager, in conjunction with business stakeholders and Program Managers, you will be required to build and lead a team responsible for defining and shaping the overall system architecture, systems integration and systems validation and verification strategy for aircraft system technologies

Specifically this role is responsible for:

  • Building, leading and developing a team of Design Engineers with an appropriate mix of skills to deliver the engineering solution

  • Providing technical leadership and direction to the team

  • Defining, delegating and reporting status of the Work Breakdown Structure

  • Organising and participating in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process. Ensure that all necessary follow up actions are taken

  • Organising and running FMECA reviews and ensure that appropriate actions are carried out to mitigate risk

  • Working with the Certification department to ensure that the design solution meets the appropriate airworthiness requirements

  • Maintaining the engineering quality and integrity of the work produced within their work package

  • Leading and managing the Design input into all the customer meetings such as Initial Technical Coordination Meeting, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, First Article Inspection and Programme Reviews

  • Cost and weight targets must be monitored, managed and met

  • Team Leaders will be expected to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and suppliers and to manage data transfer

  • The selection and application of materials and processes appropriate to each design element and to provide assistance to other team members

  • Ensuring the successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole

  • Following and contributing to the development of the Best Practice guidelines as laid out in documentation

  • Checking engineering packages and where possible, to gain Authorised Signatory status for their area of expertise

  • Generating and/or revising specifications

  • Contributing to and providing assistance in the preparation of sales bids

  • Responsible for the creation of Service Bulletins, Repair Schemes and Service letters that meet the customers’ modifications or repair needs and that conform to EASA requirements through our DOA procedures

We are looking for someone who has an Engineering degree or ONC / HNC in design related field and or proven related experience:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Good team working skills

  • The ability to work with a low level of supervision and intervention

  • Sufficient engineering capability and experience to create effective engineered solutions based on interior design experience of Aircraft Galleys, Crew rests and other related monuments

  • Competent user of the incumbent CAD and data management systems

  • MS Word, Excel and Outlook

  • A working knowledge of the various methods of manufacture to be employed such as: Machining, Casting, Vacuum forming, Injection moulding, Composite materials, Trim and finish
