Rockwell Collins Quality Engineer in Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom

B/E Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rockwell Collins Inc., is a leading manufacturer of aircraft interior products and we currently have some exciting positions based at our Leighton Buzzard facility, including a Quality Engineer.

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Team Leader, the Quality Engineer is required to plan and coordinate supplier quality activities and development programs for the Interior Structures business unit, to ensure that all products are manufactured to relevant international standards and meet BE aerospace needs. Provide technical support and leadership to purchasing, manufacturing, design engineering and suppliers.

Specifically this role is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Site Quality Manager to develop, implement and maintain the Business Management systems to meet certification requirements, the needs of customers, the business and its stakeholders

  • Supporting business processes and personnel in continuous improvement activities in addition to providing information concerning product and process quality performance

  • Management, implementation and control of customer, internal and supplier product and process audits with the focus on conformance and driving continuous improvement

  • Liaising with customers, internal functions and suppliers to resolve customer issues, promoting customer confidence and satisfaction

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining quality documentation and metrics including process maps, procedures, standards, process and product specifications

  • Developing, managing, implementation and control of quality processes from material receipt, manufacturing through to dispatch of finished product to ensure product conformance and customer satisfaction

  • Supporting the New Product Introduction process through quality planning and implementation, liaising with customers, internal functions and suppliers

  • Supporting, developing and implementing supplier quality assurance and control processes

  • Managing the implementation of short and long term strategic functional objectives and KPI’s.

  • Ensuring all quality data is captured and analysed against targets taking action on adverse variation to standard

  • Striving towards the Goal of a World Class manufacturing environment.

  • Any other reasonable duties

This role reports directly to the Operations Director for the Structures Business and has no direct reports.

Network & Relationships

Internal:

  • Work with production planning and material supply functions to ensure all materials are inspected and available on time in full to support the production requirements.

  • Work with the production functions to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with company systems and procedures, meeting customer \ international standards, regulative and legislative requirements.

  • Work with engineering teams to ensure the correct information is available in the right place at the right time.

  • Work with continuous improvement teams to support CI culture and lean manufacturing tools and techniques with in the structures business.

  • Work with strategic and tactical purchasing teams to support new supplier introduction programs and implementation of SQA activities.

  • Support program managers to deliver programs to the right quality standards and documentation levels.

  • Support the Site Quality Manager in the development, implementation, administration and auditing of the quality management system.

Network & Relationships

External:

  • Liaise with other divisions to share best practice methods and execution.

  • Liaise with customers and inspection bodies for the implementation of Source and First Article Inspections.

  • Liaise with customers and suppliers on resolving product and or quality system failures.

  • Liaise with suppliers on SQA activities and new supplier \ product introductions.

Required Knowldege, Skills & Abilities

  • HNC qualification in Quality, Manufacturing or Engineering or eqivalent

  • The suitable candidate will have a strong quality and / or aerospace background gained within medium to high volume manufacturing

  • The candidate will be familiar with auditing procedures

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of Quality and / or Aerospace Standards ( ISO 9000, AS9100, EASA Part 21, EASA Part 145)

  • Problem Solving Skills with in an engineering environment - preferably 8D

  • Continuous Improvement and 5S Mindset

  • Able to read, understand and interpret engineering information

  • Effective communicator at all levels both verbal and written

  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team

  • Ability to operate effectively within a matrix organisation structure

  • IT literate – Effective use of Microsoft Office software; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access
