Job Summary

Utilize an interdisciplinary approach focusing on customer needs and requirements to design, develop, document and test hardware and/or software systems ranging from the straightforward to extremely complex. Uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities

  • Creates and updates all documentation for the hardware used on assigned projects. Maintains warranties, Tracks and maintains inventory of hardware on assigned projects.

  • Using technical drawings and/or blueprints, creates written documentation for test procedures, user instruction and engineering design.

  • Reviews project specifications and develops drawing package including parts list and wiring list with assembly instructions. Designs hardware in support of contracts, including changes and revisions to existing systems.

  • Creates and updates written test procedures, reports, work instructions and task lists for hardware on assigned projects.

  • Performs tests on hardware to ensure efficacy. Assists various site system personnel with performance of tests on installed systems.

  • Provides technical evaluations of prospective hardware and software products in support of project specifications and corporate standards.

  • Researches market and purchases equipment/hardware needed to successfully complete project. Prepares purchase orders and tracks shipment of hardware. Troubleshoots problems in acquiring hardware. Makes substitutions as needed.

  • Corresponds with customer reps at all test sites to assure test activities are properly supported and carried out.

  • Assists in the design and development of engineering plans for integration of software and hardware portions of the project.

  • Meets routinely with project manager to update project status. Meets periodically with software and hardware personnel to ensure technical consistency within the company on all projects.

  • Experience in proposal development and project pricing.

  • May travel to sites to assist in or oversee installation of equipment. May work on “off” hours to perform system testing.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Proficient in networking design and network hardware and configuration.

  • CCNA Certifcation or higher

  • Proficient in VMWare technology and applications. This includes vCenter, vSphere and Horizon View.

  • Proficient of Storage Area Networks (SAN) NFS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel implementations.

  • Solid experience working with operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret into written documents. Knowledge of drawing standards for hardware and wiring.

  • Extensive knowledge of systems integration for hardware and software.

  • Previous experience using diagnostic and test equipment.

  • Previous experience working with SCADA, Energy and/or Transportation systems highly desirable.

  • Familiar with the utilization of configuration management tools.

  • Understanding of relational database programs including Oracle and MS SQL.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

  • Good presentation skills.

  • Ability to travel as required

  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces as required

  • Ability to lift equipment weighing from 10 - 80 pounds as required
