Rockwell Collins Commercial Systems, Traffic Surveillance Department, seeks a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of Software Engineers. This team participates in the design, build, and legacy support of TCAS / Transponder and Integrated Surveillance products. These products provide vital information to ground tracking systems as well as other aircraft to help track location, attitude and proximity to other aircraft.
As a functional leader, the candidate shall possess strong software engineering expertise and exhibit the ability to utilize this expertise to provide guidance and mentoring to Traffic Surveillance software engineers, as well as providing software engineering expertise to all projects within the Traffic Department.
Accountability for all traffic software efforts including planning, design, verification, and certification, as well ensuring that quality, technical requirements, cost and schedule goals are met.
Hiring, training, and allocating talented SW engineers to all development and legacy support projects.
Other administrative aspects of the role include assessing staffing demand, giving performance reviews, participating in salary planning, and understanding and administering Rockwell Collins policies and procedures
Provide guidance to team members on the utilization of Rockwell Collins and industry software design and development processes and provides assurance that design activities are consistent with requirements for product safety, reliability, maintainability, performance, and certification.
Overall engineering responsibility for the Integrated Surveillance product lines, including development and support.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
Strong background in Embedded Software design engineering,
Direct experience using the DO-178 Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification process.
Strong leadership skills, including leading by example and the ability to manage resources to support many simultaneous projects.
Experience in generating engineering estimates, project planning, Earned Value tracking, setting up project schedules, identifying staff to execute a project, hiring and developing staff, and ensuring that the team executes to the established budget and schedule.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with program management and executive management.
Strong team building skills, both internal and external to the team.
Thrives in a highly demanding and fast paced work environment.
As a leader in Commercial System Engineering, the successful candidate will understand the importance of communicating masterfully and the necessity of creating an environment of accountability and commitment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with both internal and external customers
Familiarity with avionics systems is desired
Prior management experience is desired, although previously demonstrated development project leadership will also be considered.
