Rockwell Collins is looking for a Software engineer to work with a team of system and software engineers primarily located in East Orlando Research Park, in the development of visual simulation and training solutions. Development takes place in a collaborative teamwork environment and often includes team members from diverse geographic and cultural backgrounds. Customers are both foreign and domestic and include all branches of the armed services and commercial airlines.
This position is for a Software engineer within the Simulation Training Solutions department. As a member of this team you will be working on the image generation system software for the EP-80 and EP-8100 image generator platforms.
Selected candidate will perform System / Software developing tasks following a technical consistent process including: Subsystem-Specific Requirements Development, Software Design, Software Development, Subsystem Test, Validation, and Verification of real-time software products. Candidate will perform assignments in conjunction with other software and system engineers as part of a system/software development. Engineering development tasks will be in related to network programming, multi-threaded programming, flight simulation, 3D graphics, OpenGL, real-time determinism, and host communication interfaces.
The candidate will learn to apply requirements, design, development, test and release software processes, tools, methods and coding best practices with primary emphasis on System and software design and development; incorporate the appropriate RC processes and tools into product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction; Perform System debugging using appropriate techniques and tools; Performs cross-functional team efforts in integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems; Provide engineering estimates.
Successful candidate will be familiar with developing requirements, designing re-usable system/ software components, testing/debugging, writing test cases and test procedures, and running test procedures. This job also requires good written/oral communication skills, the ability to work in teams or as an individual contributor, and analytical skills.
Software is developed primarily with C++ and C# languages. A strong background in OpenGL, shaders, and hardware drivers for graphics cards is highly desirable. Knowledge of computer graphics or gaming is a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience with the AMD Vulcan API would also be highly desirable, along with high level scripting languages like Python.

Candidates must have the following:
Participated in a significant software development project
Graphics development with OpenGL / direct x
Knowledge of C++/C# and object-oriented programming
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.
Able to obtain security clearance (US Citizenship required)
Strong math background
Creative problem solving ability
Excellent English language written and oral communication skills
GUI / human interfaces
3D graphic Engines
