Job Summary

Sr Engineering Manager – Global Joint Fire Solutions (GJFS) Products

Our Engineering team is looking for a dynamic Sr Engineering Manager to provide leadership with our software activities and product development supporting our Rockwell Collins Government Systems Global Joint Fires product line. This strategic role will maintain interaction with major customers, program managers, and a globally distributed engineering team. This position focuses on managing a group of systems engineers and software engineers to develop a state of the art product line which leverages tactical datalinks to perform a variety of missions ranging from command and control, digitally aided close air support, and digitally aided fires.

The position requires engineering management, engagement, and providing leadership guidance to an engineering team focused on full lifecycle developments, flawless execution, product line roadmap development. Responsibilities include managing individuals contributing technical talent, planning, organizing, resource allocation, personnel development, performance reviews, salary planning, as well as project management skills including earned value analysis. This includes working with product development teams to ensure successful project completion, drive common practices and methods, as well as enabling teams to proactively manage project execution. Additional responsibilities will include customer interaction, and communication with department and program management. A successful candidate will have knowledge of earned value and schedule management, software and systems development process and practices, and experience leading a team of several people. The candidate must demonstrate sound decision making skills, strategic thinking, communication skills, networking skills, and able to accurately forecast project work and costs. A candidate with a high-level understanding of systems and software development is a plus.

Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work directly with and/or manage daily activities of engineers, perform project engineering and program management tasks when applicable, responsible for the development and progression of a product line roadmap, and interfacing with support organizations during the development of products. The candidate will work closely with Technical Project Managers, Product Line / Program Management, Systems, Software, and support staff to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product's lifecycle. A successful candidate will need the ability to matrix multiple programs and development tasks while supporting the various projects objectives of cost and schedule.

Candidate will lead the engineering team using strong interaction, interpersonal, mentoring and negotiating skills, and will be responsible for managing project risks/issues and elevating to upper management when appropriate. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for adhering to, and supporting Rockwell Collins process methodologies while developing and managing commitments to meet project financial and schedule deliverables and quality requirements.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline.

Candidates MUST have the following:

  • Demonstrated leadership of successful software development methods and processes from requirements through verification

  • Demonstrated development of product line roadmaps and execution of those roadmaps

  • Demonstrated experience with Agile software development models

  • SEER parametric estimating and bidding experience

  • Recent experience and expertise in Atlassian JIRA suite of tools

  • Project planning and management experience

  • US DoD security clearance, or ability to obtain (US Citizenship is required)

  • Ability to travel 30%

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Strong leadership skills as demonstrated with interpersonal interaction, individual mentoring to develop the team composition, and training.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work well with others in a professional team environment.

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, while balancing priorities and schedules are important attributes.

  • Self-starter and have strong analytical skills.

  • Understanding and utilization of the appropriate processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction.

  • Background and / or knowledge of IP networking, Software design patterns, OOP design principles, UML modeling, Java, .NET, MFC, and SW unit testing.

  • Background with military radios, waveforms, and tactical datalinks

  • Background in Software Quality metrics such as cyclomatic complexity, static analysis, and test coverage.

  • System level test planning, configuration management and test execution.
