Rockwell Collins Business Unit Manager in Winston Salem, North Carolina

B/E Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rockwell Collins Inc., is a leading manufacturer of aircraft interior products and solutions. We are growing and have a number or exciting positions available now. Rockwell Collins Interrior Systems is seeking an energetic, self-starter to a Business Unit Manager position with its Seating Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC. The Business Unit Manager plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes, materials and products by performing the following duties:

SUMMARY

Has profit and loss responsibility for the production of a range of commercial aircraft seating programs. Leads a cross-functional product-line-focused team that includes line supervisors, line operatives, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers, buyers and material handlers to deliver aircraft seating programs on schedule that meet the customer quality expectations at the planned or improved margins.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages a continuous improvement operations environment that results in reduced material costs and improved manufacturing efficiencies.

  • Works with the engineering design and program management team on new program/product development to ensure DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) and cost target management.

  • Prepares monthly/quarterly actual output and forecast output reports for planning purposes.

  • Analyzes daily, weekly, and monthly business unit production performance against plan.

  • Participates in daily production meetings and implements relevant production schedules for the business unit.

  • Conducts continuous improvement analysis to identify and resolve supply chain and assembly line process problems, including implementation of Lean and/or Six Sigma best practices.

  • Ensures compliance with FAA and CAA regulations.

  • Ensures compliance with health and safety policy and laws.

  • Coaches, counsels and disciplines staff as appropriate.

  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels by recruiting, hiring, and downsizing as required.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages subordinate supervisor(s) who supervises exempt and nonexempt associates. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; complying with all aspects of collective bargaining agreement; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management or other applicable program from four-year college or university; and minimum five years related experience.
