Rockwell Collins Staff Engineer in Winston Salem, North Carolina

As a leader in the aerospace industry, we have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Staff Engineer on our Interior Systems Technology team located in Winston Salem, NC.
Reporting to the VP of Product Engineering Innovation, the Staff Engineer will have a key role in defining and implementing B/E Aerospace's product connectivity and data intelligence strategy. It is expected that the candidate’s expertise in industry standard connectivity solutions such as Bluetooth, Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, USB and other standards will help direct product development efforts by defining product requirements for connectivity options as well as developing the system architecture to support these projects. In addition to providing technical leadership, the staff engineer work closely with senior product line manager and corporate sales and marketing help set the connectivity strategies for our products and turn captured data into critical information and knowledge that can be analyzed to make sound business decisions and determine how to meet the needs of our OEM partners and customers. Candidates for this role shall understand how data is turned into information and knowledge and how the knowledge supports and enables key business processes.
Serve as the technical leader for connectivity related projects within the corporation. The ability to lead several simultaneous projects is a requirement.
Maintain deep aircraft interiors market knowledge and keep up with the current state of the art in connectivity.
Develop with Product Line Development engineers, the system architectures required to implement flexible connectivity options in our products.
Supporting the initiatives and marketing efforts of B/E Aerospace. This includes preparing and presenting technical overviews to key prospective customers.
Leading the development of ancillary connectivity products utilizing both internal resources and outsourced development groups. Project management of these resources is required along with regular reporting of progress.
Review of product documentation for accuracy including documentation intended for customer use (i.e., technical specifications, integration guides, instructions for use, etc.).
Review and evaluation of product design through informal and formal design reviews as well as through design verification test plans and reports. Serve as a peer reviewer for software development within your area of expertise.
When necessary, provide OEM customer support for integration of B/E Aerospace’s connectivity solutions.
Represent B/E Aerospace’s interests at SAE, FAA, Boeing, Airbus and industry connectivity standards / development organizations by involvement in one or more technical working groups.
Work with Strategic purchasing on technology sourcing strategies (make, buy, ally)
Prepare and present key innovations at the annual B/E Technology Council
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and a minimum of 9 years related experience or Master’s degree in Engineering and six-plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrable experience implementing industry standard connectivity solutions into successful products.
Familiar with all common, recognized industry connectivity standards including USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee, Bluetooth LE, Ant+, etc.
Systems level design experience with an emphasis on the development of software architectures for connected products that provides flexibility and expandability while being compatible with industry standards.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with experience authoring application notes and whitepapers.
Ability to work with both engineering and senior level management to define product development strategies for products that include connectivity.
Comfortable representing the company in a professional manner on international standards development committees and before strategic partners and OEM customers.
Experience as a technical lead for teams consisting of 3 to 5 engineers.
Strong Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet).
Well developed, detail oriented organizational skills.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).
Advanced degree – MSEE, MSCS, or MBA
Strong background in development of firmware for microprocessor-controlled products.
Solid understanding and experience in software development including good software design practices and software lifecycle management.
Experience with Medical Device Directive (MDD), ISO 13485, FDA design controls or similar regulatory environment.
Multi-Tenancy – Secure data access from multiple companies / partners / suppliers with various levels of access
Intuitive, customizable data visualization skills
